Has it been 3 weeks already since, "the delivery?!?" Well let me catch you up a little..I won't go into too much detail but I did learn a valuable lesson during my time at Swedish. Expect the unexpected and go with the flow. I had Avery on the evening of July 10th, 2013 at Swedish Medical Center! I am so happy that I had my midwife Jayne Jones running the show. My first piece of advice...GET A MIDWIFE! A Certified Nurse that will be there with you every step of the way. Midwives are a whole different line of care. Let me put it this way...the day my water broke was Jayne's day off. But she was there with me that morning and hung around until she delivered Avery late that night. What I learned that day is what you always hear, "you can have a birth plan but be flexible because anything can happen." AND IT DID! My birth plan was easy - No epidural, no people in the room besides my husband and best friend, no video or pictures, I wanted my own birthing gown on, a c-section might be easier and I definitely didn't want the baby placed on me before being cleaned off first. Well, my Midwife Jayne has been delivering babies for a long time and she would smile and get silent when my thoughts wandered because she knew. She knew that everything goes out the window when its time to get the baby out healthy. She and the nurses Heidi and Darcel were fun. They kept me laughing and explained everything to me every step of the way. They kept my stress down so I could relax and have Avery the way I wanted to. I was so comfortable that when it was time, there was my best friend recording it, my mom was also in the room, my husband was holding my hand AND watching the action, I got an epidural after about 7hours of contractions and I wasn't in my cute birthing gown. I didn't care about any of that. I was so happy that I didn't even care when Avery was placed on my chest covered in goo on her first moments in this world. Even my husband, who didn't care to cut the chord at first, ended up cutting it. Expect the unexpected and go with it. Trust the people helping you and the hospital you are in and stay calm. My experience was SO GOOD at Swedish Medical Center that.....do I dare say that...this woman who once swore off ever having children could actually be considering doing it again?!? Well that discussion is for another day but Swedish got me off on the best foot to start my family and I am can never repay them for it. I can just tell everyone I know that they are awesome and really know what they are doing. :) Tomorrow...the main questions I get all the time now....."The Recovery". :)
