America makes it SO VERY EASY to get a divorce. There aren't really any hoops to jump through. You want a divorce, you can have one. Fill out some paperwork, pay a few bucks, and start dividing your DVDs.
But apparently, 21-year-old Julia Merfeld of Muskegon, Michigan didn't see it that way. In April, she tried to hire a HITMAN to KILL HER HUSBAND . . . and she was caught on tape saying that killing him is, quote, "easier than divorcing him."
Julia had approached a co-worker about bumping off her husband. He told the cops. An undercover cop posed as a hitman, set up a meeting, and secretly videotaped Julia.
She told the fake hitman that killing her husband would be easier than divorcing him because, quote, "I didn't have to worry about the judgment of my family, I didn't have to worry about breaking his heart."
Julia was also after the $400,000 she'd get from life insurance. She offered the hitman $50,000 to kill her husband and make it look like a robbery.
Believe it or not, her husband asked the judge NOT to give her prison time. But the judge ignored him, and Julia is facing six years to LIFE in prison for solicitation of murder.
