Kathie J's PSA's Stories 1 to 6 of 6
12/29 - Colorado Tobacco Education and Prevention Alliance
On Sunday, December 29th, 2013 host Kathie J was joined by Bob Doyle, Executive Director of CTEPA, the Colorado Tobacco Education and Prevention Alliance. In children aged 18 months or younger, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports secondhand smoke exposure is responsible for an estimated 150,000–300,000 new cases of bronchitis and pneumonia annually. Using a fan or blowing your cigarette smoke in a different direction does not get rid of the exposure to second hand smoke. Second Hand smoke might be invisible but it carries just as many dangerous chemicals as first hand smoking. Chemicals can stay in clothing and hair as well. While quitting is best, CTEPA recognizes that it is an addiction and can require many attempts before finding success. They want parents who smoke to be empowered to know there are ways to protect their kids from secondhand smoke, even if they’re not yet ready to quit. Get more information and debunk the smoking myths at Listen to a portion of the show right now!
12/22 - Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado
On Sunday, December 22nd, 2013 Executive Director Gail Punsac from the Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado and 17yr old Brandon joined host Kathie J to discuss epilepsy and living with it. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder and over 50,000 children and adults in Colorado live with epilepsy every day. Epilepsy is not a genetic disorder and doctors do not know why people get epilepsy. Sometimes a seizure can just be blank starring, or it can be convulsions. Anyone from birth to senior citizens can have seizures. Many children in school have the blank starring and they get misdiagnosed as "day dreaming" or "not focused". Parents should talk to their doctor about it. Adults need to let their co-workers know what to do for them if they have a seizure during work. 1 in 26 people will be diagnosed. We all must be on the lookout for symptoms of ourselves or our loved ones to get diagnosed. Get more information today at  Listen to some of the interview now!
12/15-Who's Smokin' Who?
On Sunday, December 15th, 2013 host Kathie J was joined by Nikki Heider with the Denver Public Health's Youth Tobacco Prevention Campaign. Tobacco cigarette kills more than cancer and aids combined. The campaign wants to spread the word that cigarette smoking is bad for you and there are nasty chemicals such as toilet bowl cleaner in the cigarettes. Peak years for experimenting with smoking between the ages of 11 and 13 and smoking a whole cigarette for the first time was between 11 and 14 years old. Nationwide, more than 80% of smokers began smoking by age 18. Do what you can to educate the youth. Prevent the youth in Denver from starting to smoke cigarettes. Explain to your children, nieces, nephews and your peers in school the hazards of smoking cigarettes. Think about the facts and empower teens to make their own choice to be the adult they want to be with the habits they want to have. Call 1-800-QUIT-NOW and make your zones smoke free zones to protect the ones you love.
12/8 - Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
On Sunday, December 8th, 2013 host Kathie J was joined by Audra Bishop and Mike Van Dyke with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. They want to educate and make the public aware that the synthetic marijuana that is on the market is sending people to the hospital. Over 250 people in 2 months and has possibly caused 3 deaths. It is illegal in Colorado but it is still being sold at gas stations, head shops, convenience stores and there are thousands of these products. Just trying it once can send you to the emergency room. You never know what you will get in that package. Each one has a different amount of unknown chemicals. FAKE POT. REAL DANGER. Please go to or call 1-877-462-2911 for more information.  Hear a portion of the show with Kathie and Audra now.
