Is Eddie Murphy Doing a "Coming to America" Sequel?
It is entirely possible that EDDIE MURPHY is working on "Coming to America 2" as we speak.
Wednesday night, his Twitter account posted a picture of Vanessa Bell Calloway from the original, with the caption, "Coming to America sequel?"
Vanessa played Princess Imani, the woman Eddie's character is SUPPOSED to marry before he takes off to America to find a bride of his own. It's not a huge role, so it's kind of a weird choice for a sequel announcement.
Well, it wasn't an OFFICIAL announcement. Shortly after it was posted, the whole account was taken down. TMZ reached out to Eddie's people, and they said he doesn't Tweet . . . he has a social media team that does it.
But they also said he IS in the early stages of writing the sequel . . . but he wasn't ready to announce it.
The original came out in 1988, so it's almost 30 years old. Obviously, there's no word yet who might be coming back. But pretty much everyone from the original cast is still around except Madge Sinclair, who played Eddie's mom. She died in 1995.
(TMZ talked to Vanessa Bell Calloway, and she's totally down for it. And while we haven't heard from him, I'm pretty sure Arsenio's calendar is clear.)
